Course Info

Once again we are proud to offer a course catalog filled with many new courses and returning favorites. Most of our courses are available for English speakers. We are able to offer weekend courses in the autumn for those unable to attend summer courses. We also offer shorter courses during the summer. As always we offer a number of food courses including traditional cooking and baking courses. And keep an eye on the website for new courses that come up during the year.

I hope you will find a course that suits you! Do you know anyone who would like to receive our catalog? If so, please give us his or her name and address and we will be happy to send one!

Best regards

Ann Mari Jore

Information about the courses:

Most courses are open for English speakers.

Nearly all our teachers understand and speak English; however, unless stated otherwise in the course description, the course will be taught primarily in Norwegian. If in doubt, e-mail or call us regarding language questions for specific courses.

We offer several courses simultaneously so as to allow couples and others to attend different courses at the same time. The summer courses start at 19.00 Monday. After receiving the necessary information, the courses will continue until 21.00. From Tuesday to Saturday, the lessons will be from 08.30 to 16.00. The course ends Sunday 12.00. The workshops will be open till 22.15 every night.

The weekend courses start Thursday at 19.00, continue Friday and Saturday 08.30- 16.00, ending Sunday 12.00. Some short courses last from Monday evening till Thursday.

Participants must purchase necessary materials, but are of course free to bring their own equipment if they wish. A list over all materials and equipment needed will be sent to all of those signed up for a course. You will also find all other necessary information on the list.

Recreational activities

There are several available recreational activities: hiking, swimming in the lake, boat trips, fishing, canoeing and horseback riding. There are several art collections and exhibitions in the district, open to the public.

Give a course as a gift.

We need the name of the lucky person and contact information from the gift giver. After that we will mail you our special card.

From morning till night.

Breakfast is at 07.30. We then meet in Vesaas-salen for information about the day’s activities. Each course will be asked to contribute with a song, poem, a good story, or something similar. Workshop till lunch, 12.00. Then again workshop until 16.00. Then a light snack consisting of fruit, coffee and tea will be served. Dinner will be served at 18.30. Before dinner we encourage visitors to enjoy the rest of Rauland - go for a hike on one of the many trails, take in an art exhibit, or visit the local shops. The workshops will be closed 22.15. Some nights a lecture will be offered for those who wish to attend. The last night of the course, things made at the different courses will be exhibited. There will also be extra entertainment this night. The autumn courses follow the same schedule as the summer courses.

Signing up for a course

You sign up by sending the registration sheet by mail, fax, or e-mail. The most popular courses are quickly filled up. If you sign up for course that is already full, you will be put on a waiting list. Registration must be in writing; you will receive a written confirmation shortly after you register via post or email. Six weeks before the course starts, we will count all the registrations, to determine if it is possible to hold the course. You will be notified immediately if the course has to be cancelled.

Paying the fee

The course fees cover course materials, instruction, and workshop space. Some courses have additional fees for materials. You may also book food and lodging. If a sufficient number of participants have signed up for the course in question, you will receive a letter of verification and an invoice. The fee for the course (s) must be paid four weeks in advance of the course.

You will receive food and accommodation at Raulandsakademiet. As long as there are enough available rooms, it is possible for family and others to rent a room too. Meals are served three times a day, plus an additional light fruit meal.

You are welcome to arrive and get settled before your course starts. Check in from 15.00. A hot meal is served at 18.00. An information meeting is held at 19.00, before the courses start 19.15. Coffee and biscuits are served at 21.00.

If you are unable to attend

If you are unable to attend a course which you have signed up for, please let us know as soon as possible. The cancellation fee is 900 NOK. If you cancel 28 days or less before the course starts, the entire course fee is payable. Refunds will not be made if you fail to attend a course.
