The buildings at Telemarkstunet

Welcome to Telemarkstunet! We would like to invite you to a rustic courtyard framed by a number of traditional timber houses. This is a great place for children to play, travellers to relax, and culture and food enthusiasts to taste and purchase quality Norwegian-made products. During the summer the café, craft shop, and bakeries are open every day and there are konserts on the weekend. Before Christmas and during Easter break, the shops and bakery are also open.

Some of the buildings are also available for renting for private parties or courses.

This is a copy of a medieval longhouse. These buildings had no windows, the light came through an opening in the roof. The smoke from the hearth was also let out this opening. These longhouses traditionally had an earthen floor, and a hearth positioned centrally in the middle of the room.

The Årestoga that can be found at Telemarkstunet is constructed out of timber, and is much bigger than those preserved from medieval time. There is a skylight, heated stone floor and electricity.

A small kitchen has also been installed for simple meals and food serving.

We use Årestoga for parties and concerts. The timber walls and wood carvings create a special atmosphere. Årestoga is very well suited for birthdays and gatherings and can easily seat 40- 50 people.

Roughly once month during the school year there Folkemusikkscena presents folk music concerts, often in Årestoga.

Låven is a copy of a traditional barn from Vest-Telemark. Inside you will find the craft shop with products from over 120 different artists. Låven is open every day during the summer and weekends before Christmas. Groups can also arrange to visit the shop to see this unique collection of quality items - contact us as +47 35073292 or <> (Remove SPAMFILTER from the address).

During the summer, Gardsjordstoga houses our café, serving traditional food, coffee, cakes, ice-cream and our own micro-brew. More information here about the summer program.

Gardsjordstoga is a copy of a building from the Gardsjord family farm, less than a kilometer from Raulandsakademiet. The two main rooms were built out of timber as if they were independent buildings and connected with an enclosed hallway. Our copy has a garderobe and WC in part of the original hallway, and an open connecting space between the two rooms. We have also added a glass enclosed walkway to the modern kitchen. Here we prepare food for parties and the summer café, as well as holding food related courses.

We have serveral other reconstructed buildings surrounding the courtyard:

  • Veslebur
  • Loftet
  • Eldhuset
  • Stallen
  • Badstoga
